In the Meester class 2003/04 the 81st Dutch team championship in chess was played. Dutch team champion was ZZICT / De Variant Breda , who won his ninth title in a row.

mode

The 10 participating teams played a simple round-robin tournament in the preliminary round . The last two were relegated to class 1, the first four qualified for the play-off. The play-off was carried out in the knockout system, all four places were played.

Game dates

The competitions of the preliminary round were held on September 27, November 1 and 22, December 13, 2003, January 31, March 6 and 27, April 17 and May 9, 2004. The play-off competitions took place on May 20 and 21, 2004 in Enschede .

Preliminary round

Even before the last round, VastNed Rotterdam and Hilversums Schaakgenootschap had two play-off participants, while defending champions ZZICT / De Variant Breda , ING / ESGOO and Leidsch Schaakgenootschap were still fighting for the two remaining play-off places. Breda and ESGOO won the last round and reached the play-off. HWP Sas van Gent was promoted from class 1 . This reached the league as well as Utrecht, who were actually relegated the previous year and only remained in the Meester class through the promotion of their own second team. SMB Nijmegen and BIS Beamer Team had to relegate , who were tied for seventh and eighth place in terms of team points, but achieved fewer board points.

Semifinals

In the semifinals, Enschede, who was fourth in the preliminary round, faced the preliminary round winner Rotterdam in one competition and the third and second in the preliminary round in the other competition with Hilversum and Breda. The team that was worse placed in the preliminary round won both competitions.
