Miguel Molina González (born February 17, 1989 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish automobile racing driver . He competed in Formula Renault 3.5 from 2006 to 2009 . He competed in the DTM from 2010 to 2016 .

Career

Molina began his motorsport career in karting in 1999 , which he practiced until 2005. At the same time he made his debut in formula racing in 2004 and finished sixth overall in the Spanish Formula Renault Junior. In 2005, Molina switched to the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and finished 28th in the overall ranking. In 2006 he competed in the Spanish Formula 3 championship and achieved sixth place in the overall standings with one win. He also made his debut in Formula Renault 3.5 this year , in which he took part in six races. In 2007 Molina competed in his first full season in this championship and he managed to win two races. With two further podium finishes, he finished seventh overall at the end of the season.

In 2008 Molina stayed in Formula Renault 3.5. He managed to win two more races and moved up to fourth place overall. In 2009 Molina started again in the Formula Renault 3.5. In his fourth season, however, he did not win a race and fell to eighth place overall. In addition, Molina had to skip the last four races because his team - Ultimate Motorsport - had dropped out of Formula Renault 3.5 prematurely.

In the 2010 season he competed in the DTM for Abt Sportsline in an Audi A4 DTM one year older . With an eighth place in his debut race at Hockenheim , he got his first point straight away. In his first season he scored points in a total of five races and fourth place was his best result. He also drove the fastest lap once. At the end of the season, he finished tenth in the drivers' championship. In 2011 Molina completed his second DTM season for Abt Sportsline. At the eighth round in Oschersleben he achieved his first DTM pole position and in the race , finishing eighth, finally his first point of the season. After starting from pole position again at the season finale, he finished third with his first podium finish. He finished the season in eleventh place in the overall standings.

In 2012 , Molina and Mike Rockenfeller moved from Abt to Phoenix Racing , where he received an Audi A5 DTM . While Rockenfeller finished fourth as the best Audi driver with 85 points, Molina finished the season with 8 points in 18th place in the drivers' standings. In 2013 , Molina stayed with Phoenix in the DTM. Fifth place was Molina's best result. Internally, he was again defeated by his team-mate Rockenfeller, who won the overall ranking this year. Molina was 17th overall at the end of the season.

In 2014 Molina returned to Abt in the DTM. At the Hungaroring he achieved his best DTM result to date with a second place in the third race. In the overall standings he was 17th again. In 2014, Molina also made a guest appearance in the Stock Car Brasil . In 2015 Molina stayed with Abt in the DTM. He chose 17 as his starting number. He achieved his first DTM victory at the Nürburgring . As in previous years, he finished the season again in 17th place overall. He also contested a race in the Blancpain Endurance Series . In the DTM season in 2016 Molina drove again for Abt. At the Lausitzring , he won a race. Another followed in Hockenheim. At the end of the season he was in 13th place in the drivers' championship.
