Michael Rudolph "Mike" Knuble (born July 4, 1972 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a former American ice hockey player with a Canadian passport, who played over 1133 games for the New York Rangers , Boston, between 1991 and 2013 Bruins , Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals played in the National Hockey League on the right winger position . Knuble celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the Detroit Red Wings by winning the Stanley Cup in 1998 .

Career

Mike Knuble was born in Toronto to Latvian-American parents , but grew up in Grand Rapids , Michigan . During the 1991 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected as the 76th player by the Detroit Red Wings . He then played for the University of Michigan team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association for four years . Towards the end of the 1994/95 season, his last for the University of Michigan, he made his professional hockey debut in the American Hockey League playoffs for the Adirondack Red Wings , the Detroit Red Wings' then AHL farm team .

The following season he spent completely at Adirondack, while he was in the 1996/97 season for the first time in the National Hockey League and played nine games for Detroit over the season. That season, the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup , but he didn't play enough for his name to be engraved on the cup. In the following season, his first season as a full-time player in the NHL, the Red Wings were able to win the Stanley Cup again and this time Knuble's name was immortalized on the cup, although he had only played three playoff games.

Before the 1998/99 season , Knuble was given to the New York Rangers in exchange for a second-round suffrage, with which Tomáš Kopecký was later elected . The following year Knuble played all 82 regular season games and scored 15 goals and 20 assists . A month before the end of the 1999/2000 season , the Rangers gave him to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Rob DiMaio . Knuble bridged the lockout in the NHL season 2004/05 in Sweden at Linköpings HC , for which he came in 49 games to 26 goals and 13 assists in the regular season. After resumption of play in the NHL Knuble 2005 received a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers . On February 2, 2008, the American managed the first hat trick in his career when he got all hits in the Flyers 3-0 win against the Anaheim Ducks .

On July 1, 2009, Knuble signed a two-year contract with Washington Capitals , which was extended in 2011 for one year. After he initially signed a trial contract ( tryout ) with the Detroit Red Wings in January 2013 , he was shortly after again firmly committed by the Philadelphia Flyers and ended the 2012/13 season there . Knuble then ended his active career and has been on the coaching staff of the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League since the beginning of the 2013/14 season .

International

For the USA Knuble took part in the World Championships in 1995 , 1999 , 2001 and 2005 . He was also in the US squad for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
