Mindaugas Kieras (born June 7, 1980 in Elektrėnai , Lithuanian SSR ) is a Lithuanian ice hockey player and coach who has played with the Vilnius Hockey Punks in the Lithuanian ice hockey league since 2016 .
Career
Clubs
Mindaugas Kieras began his career as a hockey player with SC Energija in his hometown of Elektrėnai . There he made his debut as a 17-year-old in the East European Hockey League . In 1998, 1999 and 2001 he became Lithuanian champions with the team . He then changed clubs annually until 2009 and returned - in addition to stays abroad in Belarus, Great Britain and Latvia - twice for a year to SC Energija, with which he was able to win the Lithuanian title again in these two years (2004 and 2009). With the Milton Keynes Lightning , to whom he had switched during the 2005/06 season, he won the 2006 playoffs of the English Premier Ice Hockey League (EPIHL). Since 2009 Kieras has played again in the British Isles in the EPIHL. After two years with the Basingstoke Bison , he played for the Slough Jets from 2011 to 2014 . For the team from Berkshire he will also act as team captain and assistant coach in the 2013/14 season. In 2010 and 2013 he was elected to the EPIHL Second All Star Team. In both years he also scored the most points scorer for a defender in the league. In 2014 he returned to his hometown Elektrėnai and played for two years for SC Energija in the Belarusian Wysschaja Liga . Since 2016 he has been playing for the Vilnius Hockey Punks in the Lithuanian ice hockey league .
International
For Lithuania, Kieras participated in the junior division at the U18-C European Championships in 1996 , 1997 and 1998 as well as the U20-D World Championship in 1998 and the U20-C World Championships in 1999 and 2000 .
With the Lithuanian men's national team , Kieras first played in the C World Championships in 1999 and 2000 and, after the introduction of the current division system, took part in the World Championships of Division I in 2001 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 , 2009 , 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 when he achieved the best plus / minus balance of all players, 2015 , 2016 when he was the captain of the Baltic team for the first time, 2017 and 2018 as well as Division II in 2002 and 2004 .
He also represented his colors in the qualifying tournaments for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and 2018 in Pyeongchang . Lithuania was also on the ice at the 2016 Baltic Cup.
Coaching career
In addition to his playing career, Kieras was assistant coach at the U20 World Cup in Division II in 2016 and 2017 and head coach of the Lithuanian juniors in 2018 .
