The Ministry of Economics, Labor and Health of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (MWAG), based in Schwerin, is one of eight ministries of the state administration. The current minister is Harry Glawe ( CDU ). Stefan Rudolph is State Secretary.
history
After the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was founded in 1945, there were initially no traditional ministries, but departments subordinate to the president or vice-president. Among other things, there were separate departments for economics and welfare. This resulted in the Ministry of Economics and the Ministry of Social Affairs in 1946, which were renamed the Ministry of Industry and Construction and the Ministry of Labor and Health in 1950. These existed until the state was dissolved in 1952.
With the re-establishment of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 1990, a Ministry of Economics was set up again under this name, which was also responsible for European affairs between 1994 and 1996. From 1990 onwards, the “work” area was administered together with health and social affairs and in 1998 received its own ministry together with the “construction” area. In 2006, both areas were merged for the first time as the Ministry of Economics, Labor and Tourism , but in 2011 they were again divided into the Ministry of Economics, Construction and Tourism and the Ministry of Labor, Equality and Social Affairs . In 2016, both areas were merged again, and the ministry has had its current name since then.
