Mittersberg is a village in the Lauterhofen market in the eastern part of the Upper Palatinate district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate .

Mittersberg developed from an emigrant farm. Today 32 people live in Mittersberg.

Geographical location and climate

Mittersberg is 7 km southwest of Lauterhofener town center and is at an altitude of 590 to 605  m above sea level. NHN the highest village in the Neumarkt district. It is located in the gentle hill and mountain landscape of the Upper Palatinate Jura , part of the Franconian Jura (Franconian Alb). On the Haunberg west of the village ( 637  m above sea  level ) there is a transmission tower with a radar system from the German Air Traffic Control (DFS).

The climate in Mittersberg is temperate with a noticeable transition to the continental climate . The winters are usually very cool and snowy, the summers pleasantly warm and humid. The village is known by locals as the Snow Hole, due to its altitude.

Possibility of viewing

From Mittersberg you have a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. From the tower on the Haunberg you can see the Ochsenkopf , Hohen Bogen , Großer Arber and the river valleys of the Lauterach , Naab and Danube . On very dry and clear foehn days, you can even see the Alps in the south .
