history

The first documentary mention was between 1326 and 1328 in the Bamberg land register as "Motschenpach", where the Bamberg bishop owned twelve estates. In 1438, Bishop Anton von Rotenhan from Bamberg sold the village of Motschenbach to Andreas von Giech , who in 1448 sold the village to Rüdiger Henlein. From 1733 to 1752 Motschenbach was mentioned as a branch of the Weismain parish in the Stadtsteinach deanery .

In 1801 Motschenbach belonged to the territory of the Bamberg bishopric , to which, represented by the Weismain office, the higher and lower jurisdiction belonged. The tithe had to three-quarters of the Weismainer box office , a quarter of the Kronacher hospital. The place was parish with the branch church St. Maternum after Weismain. There was also a community shepherd's house, 15 houses with barns, three drip houses and two farmsteads in the village . In 1803 a parish was set up in Motschenbach.

According to the municipal edict of 1818, Motschenbach was merged with the village of Geutenreuth, 5.5 kilometers away, and the hamlets of Dörfles, Pöhl and Wüstendorf to form the rural community of Geutenreuth in the Upper Main District . In 1862, the rural community was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Lichtenfels .

In 1875 Motschenbach had 195 residents and 78 buildings. The parish village at that time had its own Catholic school and belonged to the deanery Weismain . In 1900 the rural community of Motschenbach with its five towns covered an area of 876.86 hectares, 469 inhabitants, of which 301 were Catholic and 168 were Protestant, and 89 residential buildings. 148 people, who were predominantly Catholic, lived in Motschenbach in 31 residential buildings. The place was assigned to the district of the Protestant parish and school in Buchau , 3.0 kilometers away . In 1925 145 people lived in 29 residential buildings in the village. 1950 the place had 240 inhabitants and 30 residential buildings. In 1970 Motschenbach had 182 inhabitants and in 1987 162 inhabitants as well as 40 residential buildings with 47 apartments.

On July 1, 1972, Motschenbach was incorporated into the district of Kulmbach as part of the regional reform, such as the hamlets Dörfles, Pöhl and Wüstendorf, and added to the municipality of Mainleus. Geutenreuth stayed in the Lichtenfels district and became a district of Weismain.
