NGC 6212 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 413 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on July 26, 1870 by the astronomer Édouard Stephan using an 80 cm telescope and was later included in his New General Catalog by Johan Dreyer .
