NGC 6206 = IC 1227 is a 13.5 likes bright lenticular galaxy of Hubble type S0 in the constellation Draco the northern sky . It is estimated to be 255 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 50,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 6211 and NGC 6213 , among others .
The object was discovered on October 23, 1886 by Lewis A. Swift , who wrote “pF, eS, R, stellar; 3 vF sts no n point to it ”noted.
An error in Swift's position information showed Guillaume Bigourdan only a single star, so that his observation of this galaxy on August 13, 1888 in the correct position led to an entry in the index catalog under IC 1227 .
