NGC 6233 is a 14.0 mag bright lenticular galaxy of the Hubble-type S0 in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 491 million light years from the Milky Way and about 200,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 6243 .
The object was discovered on July 12, 1880 by Édouard Stephan .
