NGC 6255 is a 12.8 mag bright bar -spiral-shaped Low Surface Brightness Galaxy of the Hubble-type SBc in the constellation Hercules and about 48 million light years from the Milky Way.
It was discovered on May 16, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "eF, cL, iE, nearly in parallel".
