NGC 6243 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Hercules in the northern sky . It is an estimated 485 million light years from the Milky Way and about 140,000 light years in diameter.

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6233 and IC 4623 .

The object was discovered by Édouard Stephan on June 10, 1880 .
