Local transport in the Kitzingen district

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the district of Kitzingen , various rail and bus transport services are offered within the framework of local public transport (in short: ÖPNV ) .

The Kitzingen district belongs to two transport associations. He has been a member of the Verkehrsverbund Mainfranken ( VVM for short ) since it was founded. At the regional transport system Nuremberg was initially a gradual connection. Since the beginning of 2017, all public buses and trains in the district can also be used with VGN tickets.

Local public transport within the city of Kitzingen is served by collective call taxis . Instead of regional bus transport, taxis are used in regular transport, especially on weekends.

Rail transport

A total of three main traffic arteries are of decisive importance for the district's rail traffic. All routes have a high traffic density , both in passenger and freight traffic, and are therefore heavily frequented at all times of the day and night. This applies in particular to the Nuremberg – Würzburg and Treuchtlingen – Würzburg routes . The third important railway line is the Bamberg – Rottendorf railway line , which does not have a train station in the Kitzingen district itself.

Local traffic in the Kitzingen district is operated by DB Regio Franken under the name Mainfrankenbahn . The modern electric locomotives of the type Alstom Coradia Continental of the Mainfrankenbahn are used for most train journeys . Occasionally, however, double-decker cars of the type DBbzf 76 and other vehicle types can also be found.

Main line Würzburg-Nuremberg (KBS 805)

The Würzburg-Nuremberg line is probably the most heavily frequented railway line in the district. In addition to local trains, the route is also used by numerous long-distance and freight trains, which ensures a very high occupancy rate both day and night.

In local transport on weekdays between 5 a.m. and 1 a.m., a regional express runs roughly every hour in each direction between Würzburg and Nuremberg . However, this offer varies at the beginning and end of the specified interval. The first regional train starts its journey shortly after 5 a.m. in Kitzingen (instead of Nuremberg). The last regional train from Würzburg also ends in Kitzingen at around 1 a.m. and then returns empty to Würzburg.

In support of the hourly Regional Express trains, shuttle trains run between Würzburg and Kitzingen from Monday to Friday, during rush hour, in order to create a half-hourly regular service .

Main line Würzburg-Treuchtlingen (KBS 920)

On the main Treuchtlingen – Würzburg line, regional trains run almost every hour on weekdays between 4:30 a.m. (Sundays from 5:30 a.m.) and 0:30 a.m. The last train after midnight from Würzburg Hbf, however, only goes to Marktbreit . The first train in the direction of Würzburg leaves at a later point in time than in the opposite direction.

From Monday to Friday, at times with a high number of passengers, there are also shuttle trains between Würzburg and Marktbreit, which means that there is a half-hourly frequency.

In addition to the transport services described, the route is also used day and night by numerous long-distance and freight trains.

Main line Würzburg-Bamberg (KBS 810)

Although the route book route 810 between Würzburg and Bamberg does not have a stop in the district, it is still important for local transport.

Passengers from Kitzingen can change trains in the direction of Schweinfurt and Bamberg at Rottendorf station . The same applies to the reverse direction of travel.
