Nikolaus Paryla (born November 19, 1939 in Zurich ) is an Austrian actor and theater director .

Life

Nikolaus Paryla is the son of the actors Hortense Raky and Karl Paryla and the older brother of Stephan Paryla-Raky , who is also an actor and also works as a director. He spent his youth in Zurich , where his parents were engaged at the Schauspielhaus Zurich during their emigration . He stood in front of the camera for the first time at the age of nine when his father played the leading role in the East German feature film Semmelweis - Savior of Mothers and he got a small supporting role as Loisl; then he played in the Scala Theater . In 1960 he played the king in the DEFA fairy tale adaptation of Rumpelstiltskin .

Paryla studied acting at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna . In 1961 he got his first engagement at the Vienna Volkstheater as Moritz Stiefel in Frank Wedekind's Spring Awakening directed by Gustav Manker , after which he was engaged at the Theater in der Josefstadt until 1969 . Between 1970 and 1971 Paryla was part of the ensemble of the Berlin Schiller Theater, after which he was on the stage of the Munich Residence Theater until 1986 .

Nikolaus Paryla was married to the actress Mona Seefried for the first time . The actress and singer Laura Schneiderhan comes from this marriage . In his second marriage he was married to Carla Paryla, an opera singer. From this marriage comes David Paryla . Nikolaus Paryla is married to the actress Undine Brixner today . His son David is also an actor. Paryla is the nephew of the actor Emil Paryla and thus the cousin of the actress Katja Paryla .

Paryla's star roles include appearances in Patrick Süskind's Der Kontrabaß , which he premiered on September 22, 1981. For several years he has played the poet Franz Werfel in Paulus Manker's polydrama Alma - A Show Biz to the end . In addition, Nikolaus Paryla had over 50 film appearances, including highlights such as the role of the windy insurance agent Arno von Mehling in Kehraus . Paryla plays Pope Innocent XIV in the 2012 feature film Whoever believes, is blessed by director Marcus H. Rosenmüller .

In 1980, Paryla was awarded the Gold Filmband in the category Best Acting Achievement - Male Supporting Role for the role of Rohlfs in the film Lena Rais by Christian Rischert , and in the same year he also received the Hersfeld Prize . He has been a Bavarian state actor since 1983 and was named Actor of the Year in Munich in 1986 . In 1984 he was nominated for the film tape in gold for his supporting roles in Kehraus and Wenn ich fear mich .
