Career

Niklas Dams began playing football in the ASV Tiefenbroich youth team . Later he joined the offspring of Fortuna Düsseldorf . In 2003 he moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach a few kilometers west .

After his time in the offspring was over, because he had reached the age limit, he was pulled up to the second team playing in the regional league . On August 9, 2009 he made his debut for the second team when he was in the starting line-up against SV Waldhof Mannheim on matchday one . At the end of the season there were 16 missions, 12 of them over 90 minutes. In the following season he came to four goals in 33 appearances. On May 31, 2011 he signed a professional contract with Borussia. From now on he was an integral part of the Bundesliga squad, but mostly strengthened Borussia's U-23s in order to continue to collect match practice. In total, he came to 26 missions in the Regionalliga West in the 2011/12 season, in which he scored one goal. In the 2012/13 season he was still mostly used in the regional league. On December 6, 2012, he was in the squad of the Europa League game against Fenerbahçe Istanbul , but was not used.

On July 6, 2013, it was announced that Dams was moving to the traditional Swiss club Servette FC Genève . There he was given a three-year contract. Niklas Dams was transferred to Geneva on the recommendation of his coach at Borussia, Lucien Favre . There, his son, Loic Favre , had just taken over the post of sports director. Dams made his first competitive appearance for Servette in the away win against FC Wohlen on July 13, 2013. At the end of his first season in Switzerland, he played a total of 27 competitive games, all of them in the starting line-up. However, Servette only ended up on a disappointing 5th place. In the next season everything should get better. Under the new coaching staff around head coach Kevin Cooper , Dams was still the defense chief and became the team's captain. This season, too, Dams was always in the starting line-up and made a total of 35 competitive appearances. Servette finished the season in 2nd place behind newly promoted Lugano, who fought a tight duel with Servette up to the 35th matchday for promotion.

At the end of July 2015 he moved to SV Wehen Wiesbaden . He signed a contract with the German third division club, whose team was coached by his former Gladbach coach Sven Demandt at the time. In April 2017, his contract with SV Wehen Wiesbaden was extended for two more years. In the 2018/19 season, he rose with SV Wehen Wiesbaden from the 3rd division to the 2nd Bundesliga .
