List of Nikon DSLR cameras

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The D series from the Japanese manufacturer Nikon is a series of digital single-lens reflex cameras with image sensors measuring 24 mm × 16 mm (manufacturer designation DX format ) and 36 mm × 24 mm (full format, manufacturer designation FX format ). The size of an image sensor essentially also requires the use of suitable objectives, which in turn must have objective bayonets suitable for the camera in order to be exchangeable if necessary.

history

The series was launched in 1999 with the Nikon D1 model . These cameras use the Nikon F bayonet , which was the manufacturer's first SLR camera model, the Nikon F, in 1959. Since then, the bayonet has undergone a number of enhancements, for example an autofocus function. Just as with the earlier produced F-series models , the manufacturer also provides the cameras with one-digit type designations as models for professional photographers . Multi-digit cameras such as D80, D90, D100, D200, D300, D300s and D700 are for amateur photographers, and the D40, D40x, D50, D60, D70, D70s and D3000, D3100 and D5000, D5100 are for beginners. The models D7000 and D7100, which the manufacturer also provides for amateurs, fall out of this scheme.

Models

The following table compares general and technical data of digital SLR cameras from the Japanese manufacturer Nikon .

Legend:

  • Only effective megapixels are given.
  • The ISO range is specified without range expansions (e.g. Lo-1, Hi-1, Hi-2 etc.).
  • Maximum frame rate of the basic model (without special accessories such as battery grip) at full resolution in RAW format.
  • Only the weight of the camera housing is specified as the weight of the camera (without battery, memory card, etc.).
  • The dimensions are given in the format width × height × depth and rounded up to whole millimeters.
  • The pixels of the display are given in number of sub-pixels. I.e. each red, green and blue (possibly white) pixel is counted separately according to the manufacturer's information.
  • Sensor format: The manufacturer Nikon describes a sensor in the format 24 × 36 mm as FX , a sensor in the size of approx. 16 × 24 mm as DX .
  • All cameras in the table below use the Nikon F bayonet .
  • The recommended retail price (RRP) for the camera housing at the time of market launch. No figures are available from Nikon Austria. Today's rounded inflation-adjusted price is given in brackets.
