Novigrad ( Italian Novegradi ) is a port in the Zadar County in the Croatian region of Dalmatia .

location

The place is located at the mouth of the Draga in the Novigrad Sea .

history

First documented mention in the 13th century. Above the village are the remains of a fortress from this time. Between 1386 and 1387 the widow of King Ludwig I of Anjou, Jelisava and her daughter Maria, wife of King Sigismund, were held here. The parish church is dedicated to St. Martin, a hall church with a free-standing bell tower located on the edge of the old town. The village was badly affected during the war in Croatia .
