The Ochsenkopfschanzen , today officially Ochsenkopf-Schanzenarena , are three ski jumping hills on the Ochsenkopf in Bischofsgrün in the Fichtelgebirge . The facility includes two small jumps of categories K 15 and K 30 and a medium jump of category K 64. The jumps are covered with plastic mattings.

history

As early as the 1920s, it was possible to jump on a natural hill, a jumping hill, at the Ochsenkopf. In 1933 the first ski jump with construction point 35 (K 35) and a wooden inrun was inaugurated. The inauguration of the K-54 plastic covered hill took place in 1957 in the presence of almost 20,000 spectators. The Ochsenkopfschanze was converted into a K-60 summer hill for the first time in 1975. Many German jumpers like Dieter Thoma and the young Martin Schmitt met there at several events in the 1980s . In the 1990s, jumpers from Saxony and Thuringia , including Jens Weißflog , came to Bischofsgrün. In 1993 there were first considerations to convert the hill. Three years later, the first concrete plans for expansion were in place. The Ochsenkopfschanze was modernized from 2000 to 2007 for 1.8 million euros. In May 2002 there was considerable structural damage, for which an explanation was sought by summer 2006. In August 2006 the construction of the new ski jumping hill, which was completed in July 2007, could be continued. With the women's Continental Cup jumping, the HS-71 plastic covered hill was inaugurated in summer 2007 and a new K-15 junior hill in May 2009. For the completion of the Ochsenkopf-Schanzenarena the construction of a youth hill of the category K 30 was planned. After the approval of financial support by the Bavarian state government, the construction work for the approximately 500,000 euro complex was carried out in 2014/15. The new HS-34 hill was handed over to the SC Bischofsgrün on Whitsunday, May 24, 2015 before the jumping. The official opening ceremony took place on June 19, 2015.
