Olchowatka ( Russian Ольхова́тка ) is an urban-type settlement in the Voronezh Oblast in Russia with 3,806 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is 150 km as the crow flies south of the Voronezh Oblast Administrative Center . It is located on the right tributary of the Don Chornaya Kalitwa (Black Kalitwa) at the confluence of the left tributary Olchowatka.

Olchowatka is the administrative center of the Rajons Olchowatski and seat of the municipality Olchowatskoje gorodskoje posselenije, to which since the connection of rural communities Basowskoje and Sabolotowskoje selskoje posselenije on 2 October 2013, the settlements Bolshie Basy (south then) Bugajewka (northeast then) Malyje Basy (3 km southeast), Sabolotowka (east adjoining), Sagirjanka (4 km west) and Salowka (3 km north) belong. Together with the immediately adjacent surrounding villages, Olchowatka forms a contiguous settlement area with over 10,000 inhabitants.

history

The place was founded in 1702. One of the first sugar factories in Russia was built there in the 19th century . Olchowatka had the status of a Sloboda in Ujesd Ostrogoschsk and was one of the larger rural settlements in the Voronezh governorate towards the end of the 19th century .

On July 30, 1928, Olchowatka became the administrative seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. During the Second World War , the settlement was occupied by the German Wehrmacht from the beginning of July 1942 to January 16, 1943.

In 1952 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement.

The regional road 20K-W33-0 runs through Olchowatka and comes from the border of Belgorod Oblast (from Belgorod  - Nowy Oskol ) and continues through the neighboring district center of Rossosh, just under 30 km to the east, to the M4 Don federal highway north of Pavlovsk .

The settlement is the end of a 29 km long railway line, opened in 1948, which branches off the Moscow  - Voronezh - Rostov-on-Don line in Rossosh .
