Gribanowski ( Russian Гриба́новский ) is an urban-type settlement in the Voronezh Oblast ( Russia ) 15,686 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The settlement is located in the southeast part of the Oka-Don plain , almost 200 kilometers as the crow flies east of the Voronezh Oblast Administrative Center . A good ten kilometers southeast of Gribanovsky, beyond the forest area of Tellermanovskaya Roschtscha and the Vorona River , which flows into the Chopjor there , the city of Borisoglebsk .

Gribanowski is the administrative center of the Gribanowski district of the same name .

history

The place emerged as the village of Bolshaya Gribanowka ("Great Gribanowka") at the beginning of the 18th century as one of the first Russian villages in the area. It was mentioned in 1708 in connection with the participation of its inhabitants in the Cossack and peasant uprising under Kondrati Bulavin .

With the opening of the line to Borisoglebsk in 1869, the village received a railway connection relatively early; In the following years the line to Tsaritsyn (now Volgograd) on the Volga was extended. During the Soviet period, companies in the woodworking industry (furniture factory) and a machine factory were established in the village.

In 1935, Bolshaya Gribanovka became the administrative center of a newly founded Rajon. In 1957 the place was given the status of an urban-type settlement under its current name.

Culture and sights

In Gribanovsky there is the Church of the Epiphany ( церковь Богоявления , zerkow Bogojawlenija ) of considerable dimensions, which was built in 1899 in the historicist "Russian style".

Economy and Infrastructure

Gribanowski is the center of an agricultural area with the cultivation of grain, legumes and potatoes as well as cattle, sheep and poultry farming. In addition to companies in the food industry, there is a machine and two furniture factories.

Gribanowski is located on the Grjasi  - Volgograd railway (station name Gribanowka ; route kilometers 662 from Moscow ). The A144 trunk road passes the settlement and, as part of the European route 38 from Kursk via Voronezh, continues via Borisoglebsk to Saratov . A few kilometers east of Gribanovsky, it crosses the M6 highway , which runs from Moscow to Volgograd and Astrakhan .
