Bobrov ( Russian Бобро́в ) is a city in the Voronezh Oblast ( Russia ) with 19,738 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the Oka-Don plain about 150 km southeast of the oblast capital Voronezh on the right bank of the Bityug , a left tributary of the Don .
Bobrow is the administrative center of the Rajons of the same name .
The city lies on the railway line Kharkiv - Balashov - Penza, opened on this section in 1895 .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1685 as a place to buy beaver skins (Russian бобр / bobr for " beaver ", hence the place name). The animals were hunted in the area around the Bitjug River.
In 1698 the settlement of Bobrowskaja Sloboda was established , which was given city rights in 1779 under its current name.

Culture and sights
A number of merchant houses and administrative buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries have been preserved in the city.
In the nearby village of Sloboda (formerly Khrenovoye ) , the state Khrenovoye stud , founded by Count Alexei Orlov-Tschesmensky , has existed since 1776 , where the famous Orlov trotters were first bred and are still today. The original architectural ensemble has largely been preserved and has been protected as a monument since 1960.
economy
In Bobrow there are companies in the food industry, e.g. B. the German Milk Office and the construction industry, a musical instrument and a furniture factory.
