The men's 800-meter run at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp was held from August 15 to 17, 1920 in the Antwerp Olympic Stadium. 40 athletes took part.
The Olympic champion was Albert Hill from Britain, ahead of Earl Eby from the United States . Bronze went to the South African Bevil Rudd .
Germany and Austria were excluded from participating in the 1920 Olympic Games .
The Swiss Paul Martin retired with 1: 59.0 minutes as sixth of his prelim.

Conducting the competition
A total of five preliminary runs were carried out on August 15 (4:00 p.m. local time). The athletes who finished in the first four places qualified for the semi-finals, which took place on August 16 at 4.15 p.m. From each of these three races, the three best starters made it to the final, which started at 4.45 p.m. the following day.

In the first round of the finals, US runners Earl Eby and Donald Scott took the lead. South African Bevil Rudd, three days later gold medalist over 400 meters , passed the two at the start of the second round and maintained the lead to the home straight before Albert Hill and Eby overtook them and sprinted for victory. Hill was only able to secure the gold medal in the last meters.
Bevil Rudd won the first South African medal in this discipline.
