Bank Powszechna Kasa Oszczędności Bank Polski Spółka Akcyjna ( PKO Bank Polski SA , PKO BP SA , “General Savings Bank - Polish Bank Joint-Stock Company”) is the largest bank in Poland with its headquarters in Warsaw . The company is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in the WIG30 share index.

history

On February 7, 1919, Pocztowa Kasa Oszczędności ("Postal Savings Bank") was founded and Hubert Linde was appointed its first president. The seat of the bank became Warsaw and branches were opened in Katowice , Cracow , Lwów (Lemberg), Łódź and Poznan . In 1928 Henryk Gruber took over the management of the bank, which now managed 128,000 savings accounts. At the beginning of the Second World War , the PKO had 3.4 million accounts with a total investment volume of 0.8 billion zloty (1938), a balance sheet total of 1.2 billion zloty (1938) and around 2,000 employees. During the war, some branches of the German occupation administration were closed.

After the invasion of the Red Army , Pocztowa Kasa Oszczędności became active again as a Polish bank in April 1945.

On January 1, 1950, the Pocztowa Kasa Oszczędności was dissolved and its branch network was taken over by the newly founded Powszechna Kasa Oszczędności ("General Savings Bank").

In 1974 the company had around 15,000 employees. A year later the bank was incorporated into the Central Bank of Poland .

In 1987 PKO became independent again and was now called Powszechna Kasa Oszczędności Bank Państwowy ("General Savings Bank - State Bank").

On April 12, 2000, the company was converted into a joint stock company and has been operating as Powszechna Kasa Oszczędności Bank Polski Spółka Akcyjna (PKO Bank Polski) since then . Until the IPO on November 10, 2004, the company was wholly owned by the Polish state.

The group of companies, Grupa PKO Banku Polskiego , of which PKO Bank Polski SA is the parent company, has eight companies that are under the direct control of the bank and five more that are under the direct control of the bank and are fully consolidated . The IFRS are used as accounting regulations . In 2019 a net profit of approx. 4.3 billion zlotys was generated.

The capital of the company is 1,250,000,000 PLN and is divided into 312 500 000 registered shares of the series A and a total of 937,500,000 bearer of the series A to D to the nominal value of 1.00 PLN.
