Pescara Jazz

Pescara Jazz is an international jazz festival that takes place every July in the Italian port city of Pescara .

The venue is the Teatro monumento Gabriele D'Annunzio in the Park Pineta Dannunziana and the Jazz Village in the Aurum district (in a former schnapps factory).

The festival - the first summer jazz festival in Italy - presented international jazz musicians such as Bill Evans with trio, the Philly Joe Jones Quintet, Barney Kessel , Lucky Thompson , Albert Nicholas , Jean-Luc Ponty and the big band of Maynard Ferguson as early as 1969 . In the second year of 1970, Clark Terry , Shelly Manne , Buddy Tate , Teddy Wilson and the Duke Ellington Orchestra joined. Founder was Lucio Fumo and the Azienda di Soggiorno (from 1982 Ente Manifestazioni Pescaresi with the artistic director Lucio Fumo).

Since then, the festival has taken place without interruption except for a gap of four years from 1977 to 1980. In addition to the aforementioned, Miles Davis (1986), Ella Fitzgerald (1971), Sarah Vaughan , Charles Mingus , Woody Herman , Oscar Peterson , Dave Brubeck , Stan Getz , Dizzy Gillespie , Art Pepper , Chet Baker , Gerry Mulligan , McCoy Tyner appeared , Chick Corea , Herbie Hancock , Natalie Cole , Wynton Marsalis , Horace Silver , Dexter Gordon , Pat Metheny , Gary Burton and Keith Jarrett on and outside of jazz Bob Dylan , Joan Baez , Burt Bacharach , Astor Piazzolla , Caetano Veloso and Paco de Lucía .

At the 2012 festival, Chick Corea performed with Stefano Bollani , Roberta Gambarini , Gonzalo Rubalcaba , Al Di Meola , Joe Lovano with Dave Douglas , Enrico Rava and Wayne Shorter .

In 2013, Biréli Lagrène , Paolo Fresu , Trilok Gurtu , Omar Sosa , Tuck & Patti , Mike Stern , Dee Dee Bridgewater performed with Ramsey Lewis , The Cookers , Ronnie Cuber and Simona Molinari .
