The 1961/62 season was the 7th season of the Ekstraliga , the highest Polish ice hockey division , and the 27th season of the Polish ice hockey championship. Master was for the third time in the club's history Górnik Katowice . Polonia Bydgoszcz rose to the 2nd division.

In the main round, each of the six teams played a total of 30 games. The first place in the main round was champion. The last placed in the main round rose to the 2nd division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
