Središče ob Dravi ( German : Polstrau ) is a town and municipality in northeastern Slovenia . It is located in the historical Spodnja Štajerska ( Lower Styria ) region and in the statistical region of Podravska directly on the border with Croatia .

The municipality of Središče ob Dravi is located on the Croatian border on the Drava , which forms the border between Slovenia and Croatia . The next larger towns are the small town of Ormož 9.5 km to the west, the town of Ptuj 24 km to the west, and on the Croatian side Čakovec 12.5 km to the east and Varaždin 11 km to the south-east.
Community structure
The municipality comprises five localities. The German exonyms in brackets were mainly used by the German-speaking population until the area was ceded to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in 1918 and are largely uncommon today. (Population figures as of January 1, 2017):

history
Finds show that the area was inhabited as early as the Neolithic . Around 1200 Friedrich III. from Pettau to win the Friedau area with Polstrau from the Hungarians. Središče ob Dravi was first mentioned in connection with the Polstrau Castle in 1255. The castle itself was destroyed by the Turks in 1532 and was not rebuilt later. The Holy Spirit (Sveti Duh) acting gothic, was first mentioned in 1516 and was the seat of the Vicariate of Ormož . The church furnishings were renewed in the 18th century. The rustic statue of Our Lady of Sorrows is worth seeing .
