The Primeira Liga do Brasil 2018 should be the third edition of this competition in Brazil. This is played among a total of 16 clubs from Ceará , Minas Gerais , Parana , Rio de Janeiro , Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina . 2018 ten of these clubs play in the Series A and five in the Série B and one in the Série C .

Due to the restructuring of the mode of the Copa do Brasil and the international competitions, no time window for the games could be found. In the course of a meeting on February 5, 2018, it was proposed that the competition take place at the same time as the 2018 World Cup . At that time the national championship is suspended. At the end of March 2018 it was announced that the 2018 edition would not take place.

The organizers also announced that planning for 2019 will continue. For the 2019 season, too, no time window could be found for hosting the games. As a result, considerations were made to discontinue the competition or to convert a U-23 competition. In June of that year it was announced that the organization would no longer host competitions.

Due to the narrow time window being considered, a change in the delivery format was considered. The previous group stage should be omitted and a purely knockout system should take place.
