The province of Bolívar is located in the La Libertad region in northwestern Peru . The province was named after Simón Bolívar (1783-1830), a Venezuelan independence fighter. The province has an area of 1718.86 km². At the 2017 census, 14,457 people lived in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 16,650. The administrative seat is the village of Bolívar .
Geographical location
The province of Bolívar is located in the extreme northeast of the La Libertad region 170 km east-northeast of the city of Trujillo in the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The province has a longitudinal extent in the NNW-SSE direction of almost 90 km. The Río Marañón River runs along the western provincial border.
The province of Bolívar is bordered to the north by the region of Amazonas , on the east by the region of San Martín , in the southeast of the region Huánuco , the east by the region of San Martín , in the south of the province of Pataz and the west by the province Sánchez Carrión and the Cajamarca region .
