action

The three millionaires Infamous, Jerry and Michael pass the time betting huge sums on illegal car races in expensive supercars . The luxury cars are tuned by Natasha, who has a small workshop. During a test drive in Infamous' Ford GT, he noticed Natasha's potential as a driver and tried to hire her for a private racing event near Las Vegas . Natasha, who actually doesn't want to race because her father, who was a NASCAR professional, was killed in one, finally agrees after long deliberation and generous salary negotiations and takes on Michael's nephew Jason, who had a fatal accident while racing. Nat is also involved in the accident and loses consciousness in the process.

Despite his accident, Jason is declared the winner of the race. Since Michael has taken a liking to Natasha and due to the fact that Infamous used her - without her knowledge - as a "bet" for the lost race, Michael has the passed out Nat brought to his villa. A short time later, however, she was able to escape from there with the help of Jason's brother Carlo. The war veteran was originally in the villa that day to take revenge on his uncle for his brother's death.

Meanwhile, Michael gets into financial difficulties due to a botched counterfeit deal, which is why he suggests that Jerry, Infamous and Mr. Cheng bet $ 25 million each for the next race. Aware of the situation of having put everything on one card and having to win the race in order not to lose all of his property and to be able to pay the debts to his business partner, Michael Nat wants to hire his Ferrari Enzo. To achieve this, he kidnaps Natasha's mother and blackmailed Nat like that. This then starts the race. However, while the race is already running, Carlo manages to free Nat's mother, which he immediately tells him by phone.

Relieved that she no longer has to fear for her mother, Nat brakes shortly before the finish line to lose the race and get revenge on Michael for the kidnapping of her mother and the death of Jason. Michael then loses all of his possessions and cannot pay the debts to his business partner, which gets him into enormous trouble. What exactly happens to him remains open.

At the end Nat and Carlo become a couple and in the end sequence they drive a race in a Ferrari Enzo and a Königsegg CCX , which they probably received as a "thank you" from Jerry, as he - through Nat's voluntary task - wagered the 100 million dollars won for the race. Through the race they attract the attention of the police and the film ends with the statement from Natasha: "Good cars get you from A to B. And really good cars, well, they usually cause trouble."

background

In total, Redline cost $ 26 million to produce. The film grossed just under $ 8 million, making it a box office failure. The reviews were also rather moderate. The current rating of the film in the Internet Movie Database is 3.9 / 10, based on 7476 user votes. At Metacritic , Redline receives a Metascore of 24/100. The film was released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc , and a steelbook was also released on Blu-ray in addition to the normal version .

Many of the cars used in the film come from producer Daniel Sadek's private fleet. Most of the accidents shown in the film are real and not on the computer. As a result, several of the vehicles were severely damaged during the shoot, sometimes up to a total write-off. Some of the races were also actually held and mostly filmed from a Porsche Cayenne equipped with a camera arm.

Producer Daniel Sadek made a cameo in the film as a participant in the poker game at Jerry's Villa, and he is also mentioned by name at the end of the film by Jerry's employee. Infamous actor Eddie Griffin caused a stir when he drove a Sadek-owned Ferrari Enzo into a wall during practice laps for a charity race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale , which was to promote the film.

The film was set in Las Vegas , Los Angeles and Santa Clarita . The redline Stuntwoman Debbie Evans in 2008 for the Taurus Award in the category Best Overall Stunt by a Stunt Woman nominated.
