Rein is a former political municipality in the Swiss canton of Aargau . Rein includes the districts of Vorder- and Hinterrein and belongs to the municipality of Rüfenach . Today the name is best known in relation to the Reformed Church and the associated parish.
history
Rein was first mentioned in a document in 1175. From 1291 Rein belonged to the domain of the Habsburgs. They donated the church set to the Wittichen monastery in the Black Forest. The monastery sold the church set in 1544 to the Lords of Hallwyl after the Reformation had been introduced in Rein, which had belonged to Bern since 1460, in 1528. After 1588, 2/3 of the church rate from the Hallwylers went to Brugg and 1/3 to Bern and later to the canton of Aargau. Rein has been part of the Rüfenach community since 1898.
