history

The area was already well populated in antiquity, a group of four burial mounds (tumuli) lies south of the place in the Panzerwald, mainly in Burgenland . It dates back to the early Roman times , but its type, like the other graves in the area, can be assigned to the pre-Roman population. There is certainly a connection with the Roman road from Savaria (Szombathely) through the southern Burgenland hill country to the Wechselpass , which probably ran somewhere around here.

The Sparbaregg community was founded with the creation of the local communities in 1848/49 , consisting of the cadastral communities Sparbaregg and Götzendorf . On June 1, 1964, the community was renamed Sparberegg . On January 1st, 1968 the community was merged with the community of Schäffern .

On January 1, 1969, the village / cadastral community Sparberegg came from Schäffern to Pinggau. The houses that remained with Schäffern were continued there as Elsenau Sparberegg (locality code 15202). This village (2011: 42 inhabitants) was dissolved in 2012 and assigned to Elsenau , the location of the name is located here in Pinggau. In Schäffern, however, there was also a counting area called Sparberegg , which has particularly included the town of Götzendorf as such since 2012.

economy

The place is characterized by agriculture and forestry. There are three carpentry shops, a metalworking shop, a motorcycle workshop and the three-country steak Gamperl .

Culture

Catholic branch church Maria Hilf

Say

The Teufelsstein stands in the middle of a dense forest. The stone looks like a grave bed. It is said that here the “ Holzknecht Seppl ” brutally killed all the people who came down there. He was then hung in Pinkafeld. It is said that he had previously buried the dead under this stone with their possessions. An attempted excavation can be seen next to the stone. Sometimes the blood of the dead should run on the stone.

social life

Sparberegg has the volunteer fire brigade  (FF) founded in 1942 . Since 2000, the FF Sparberegg competition group has regularly won awards at state competitions. In addition, the Lebenswerte Sparberegg association has existed since 1998 , which built a community space with a multi-purpose hall from 1998–2002, primarily to counter the migration of younger Sparberegg people.
