The Wechsel is a mountain pass in the transition area between the Austrian federal states of Lower Austria and Styria .

Location and expansion

The Wechselpass has with 980  m above sea level. A. the highest point near the village of Mönichkirchen and connects the community of Grimmenstein in the Bucklige Welt with the community of Pinggau at the foot of the eponymous mountain Wechsel .

It is crossed by Wechselstraße B 54, which was the most important car traffic connection between Vienna and Graz until the A 2 southern motorway was expanded in the 1980s . This main road is now also known as a panorama road , which indicates the beautiful viewpoints along the road.

The Südautobahn crosses the Wechsel about 5 km east of the Wechselstrasse B 54 near Knolln at an altitude of 714 m. The Altstraße , perhaps already the Römerstraße, should have run over Spital and the Hartbergpass in between, west or east of the Hartberg . This whole room can be seen as a change pass in the broader sense.
