Resident Evil: Revelations , in Japan Biohazard Revelations ( Japanese バ イ オ ハ ザ ー ド リ ベ レ ー シ ョ ン ズ ), is a survival horror video game for Nintendo 3DS . The game was developed by Capcom and released on January 26, 2012 in Japan, one day later in Europe and on February 7, 2012 in North America. It supports the Circle Pad Pro peripherals of the 3DS.

On January 22, 2013, Capcom announced an implementation for PlayStation 3 , Wii U , Xbox 360 and PC, which was released in Europe on May 24 of the same year.

Capcom released a version for the Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2017.

Gameplay

3DS with Circle Pad Pro

The gameplay of Revelations is based on the survival horror -influenced earlier games in the series with recurring elements such as a limited supply of ammunition and a greater focus on discovery and solving puzzles. The in-game camera maintains a view over the character's shoulder . In contrast to previous Resident Evil games, the player can now move the figure while aiming with a weapon and has the option of switching between a third person and a first person perspective . A new game concept, the Genesis scanner , can be used throughout the course of the game to find hidden objects in the environment.

An extra mode is the raid mode, in which up to two players can cooperate in a fight against numerous opponents. The Streetpass function of the 3DS allows players to send items from the game to friends.

action

Resident Evil Revelations takes place in 2005, between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 . It describes what happened shortly after the creation of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), a counter-terrorism group that was introduced in Resident Evil 5. The plot revolves around the co-founders of the BSAA, Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield , the protagonists from some parts of the series. It also includes a flashback to the "floating city" Terragrigia ( Italian for gray earth ), which was built on an artificial island in the Mediterranean for over eleven years . It was one of the main destinations of the Queen Zenobia Cruise Lines , a cruise line that mainly operated around Italy and was the first city in the world to supply its population with solar power, thus earning the title of “Most Ecological City of All Time”. In 2004 the bioterrorist organization Il Veltro (Italian: the hunting dog ) launched an attack with bio-organic weapons against the development of solar energy in Terragrigia. In return, the Federal Bioterrorism Commission (FBC) dispatched agents to keep the situation under control; Parker Luciani and Jessica Sherawat were among them. In addition, Regia Solis , the city's solar energy matrix, was turned against them, destroying the BOWs on the island and collapsing the city. As a result of the operation, all members were of Il Veltro extinguished and Terragrigia to a biologically sensitive explains zone. All survivors have been evacuated and the remains of the city have been quarantined within a 160-kilometer radius . The event became known as "Terragrigiapanik" and served the world as a grim reminder of the ongoing threat of biological weapons from the black market.

In 2005, BSAA boss Clive R. O'Brian sent Jill Valentine and her new partner Parker Luciani out to look for Chris Redfield and his new partner Jessica Sherawat. During their mission to investigate the possible reappearance of Il Veltro , they lost contact with headquarters and disappeared. Jill and Parker are sent to their last known whereabouts, the cruise ship SS Queen Zenobia . Shortly after their arrival, they see a video message from a masked man who claims to be Il Veltro and threatens, in retaliation for the FBC's involvement in the extermination of the Veltro members in Terragrigia, about a fifth of the world's oceans with the T-Abyss - Virus, a marine virus obtained from the deadly T-virus . During their search for Chris and Jessica, they encounter numerous bio-organic weapons in the ship that are infected with the T-Abyss virus. Then they find a doll made by Chris and are gas-stunned by an agent from Il Veltro . In the meantime, Chris and Jessica find the base of Il Veltro , an airfield in the mountains. After being informed by O'Brian that Jill and Parker are now missing in the Mediterranean, they in turn are sent out to look for them. After awakening in a locked room on the Queen Zenobia , Jill and Parker escape and regroup. They later meet FBC agent Raymond Vester, whom Parker had already met during the Terragrigia panic. You will also find a video, apparently recorded by Il Veltro , showing the consequences of the T-Abyss virus. Chris demands that his team be sent to Valkoinen-Mökki Airport to look for information about the ship, prompting O'Brian to call BSAA agents Quint Cetchum and Keith Lumley to investigate. Jill and Parker reach the ship's antenna and contact headquarters, but are interrupted by O'Brian, who receives a call from the European Security Force and is informed that Solis Regia has been deployed and is aiming at the ship.

Chris and Jessica arrive on the Queen Zenobia . Chris and Jill make their way to the ship's laboratory to stop the virus that is contaminating the ocean, while Parker and Jessica find a way to stop the ship from sinking. After Jessica is exposed as a traitor, she wounds Parker and initiates the self-destruction of Queen Zenobia . Its sister ship, the Queen Semiramis , was destroyed by the self-destruction system. The pilot Kirk Mathison contacts Chris and Jill and informs them that he is here to pick them up. You meet the injured Parker again. Despite trying to save him, Parker falls into the explosion below them. O'Brian reveals to Chris and Jill the truth behind the assignment and the events he manipulated, as well as the results of Quint and Keith's research: The existence of a third sister ship, the Queen Dido , beneath the ruins of Terragrigia. When Jill and Chris track down the leader of Il Veltro , Jack Norman injects himself with an overdose of the T-Abyss virus and mutates into a new form of Tyrant , the Ultimate Abyss . After a long fight, he is killed by the two agents and expresses his relief that he has finally found peace. Chris and Jill send the video incriminating Lansdale to BSAA headquarters via Norman's PDA. O'Brian is released and Lansdale is arrested. The truth behind Terragrigia comes out and the FBC is dissolved. Parker, who was saved from the explosion by Raymond, is found on the coast of Malta and, after a month of recovery, returns to work as a special agent with the BSAA. O'Brian decides to take responsibility for initiating the entire mission and resigns as director of the BSAA. In a scene after the credits, Raymond can be seen handing Jessica a sample of the T-Abyss virus.

development

Revelations development began before Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D , a game developed by the same team. The Mercenaries 3D was designed as a test of the capabilities of the 3DS and to familiarize the team with the console's technology. Revelations uses a new version of the internally developed MT Framework - graphics engine known as MT Framework Mobile was designated. It is based on an earlier version of the engine that was used in the first-person shooter Lost Planet 2 and was specially designed for Nintendo 3DS. Depending on the mode in which Revelations is played, some graphic effects are switched on or off; for example, the graphic is anti-aliased when the console's 3D effect is turned off.

Directed by Kōshi Nakanishi , co-designer of Resident Evil 5 , producers were Masachika Kawata and Takayuki Hama ; Tsukasa Takenaka , who provided the plot background and files based on it in the course of the game of Resident Evil 5, added to the team as co-producer.

Revelations was introduced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles in 2010 . A playable demo, called the Pilot Version by Capcom , was released with The Mercenaries 3D . Another playable demo version was released on January 19, 2012 in Europe and North America as a download from the Nintendo eShop . Revelations was the first title in Europe and North America to use the 3DS's Circle Pad Pro peripherals. In addition to the regular version of the game, a version containing the Circle Pad Pro was also released in Europe.
