Richard Martyn "Ricky" Foster (born July 31, 1985 in Aberdeen or Elgin ) is a Scottish football player . The full-back was most recently under contract with the Scottish first division club Ross County .

Career

Foster started playing football at the Elgin Boys Club and joined the youth team at Aberdeen FC in July 2001 . On May 10, 2003, the Scot made his debut at the age of 17 years and 283 days in defeating Partick Thistle in the Scottish Premier League when he came on in the 82nd minute for Darren Mackie . Trained as a right runner , Foster developed into a regular player under coach Jimmy Calderwood in the following years and has played mainly as a right full-back since summer 2006 . On September 20, 2007 he made his debut for the "Dons" in the game against the Ukrainian club FK Dnipro at European level in the UEFA Cup and scored three months against FC Copenhagen, the only international goal of his career, by having a flat in cross from short Distance to the final 4-0 result converted. In the sixteenth-finals, they lost to FC Bayern Munich (2: 2, 1: 5).

After signing a new three-and-a-half year contract in Aberdeen in January 2010, the Scot was loaned to reigning champions Glasgow Rangers in late summer 2010 in exchange for Lithuanian striker Andrius Velička . When he made his UEFA Champions League debut on October 20, 2010, when the Rangers drew against Valencia CF , Foster was named Man of the Match . For his 15 league appearances, the defender received the official winner's medal as Scottish champion 2011 at the end of the season . In the league cup , however, he was not eligible to play (“cup-tied”) due to a commitment for the “Dons” at the beginning of the season with the Rangers, who were also victorious here.

In June 2011 Foster returned to Aberdeen FC and was appointed team captain . For an undisclosed transfer fee, he moved to the English second division club Bristol City in the following winter break , where he signed a two and a half year contract. Foster left the south-west of England a year before the end of his contract and returned to the Glasgow Rangers in September 2013. After the forced relegation as a result of the insolvency of the club, the Scots were back in the third division in the preseason. The team from Ibrox Stadium reached the end of the 2013/14 season with Foster unbeaten promotion to the second-rate Scottish Championship . After the missed promotion in the following year, the expiring two-year contract of the Scotsman was not extended, so Foster joined the first division club Ross County . In March 2016, he and his club won the League Cup for the first time in his career with a 2-1 final win over Hibernian Edinburgh . The full-back then moved to league rivals FC St. Johnstone on a free transfer and was again a regular player. After a training incident with club coach Tommy Wright , Foster returned to his former club Ross County in late August 2019 and signed a contract until May 2020. The contract was not extended beyond the season that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

The Scot made his debut on October 12, 2004 in a goalless draw against Moldova for the U-21 national team , two more games followed in November 2004 and August 2006. Foster was in February 2012 for the first and only time in his career in the Scottish squad A national team , but was not used in the friendly against Slovakia .
