action

During a party on his Miami yacht , Antonio Pope calls the port manager and accuses him of stealing money. During the phone call, the port manager is shot by Pope's hit man. Pope's hacker AJ secretly overhears the phone call and witnesses the murder.

Meanwhile, James and his partner Detective Mayfield are tasked with undercover investigating a drug dealer named Troy in Atlanta and trying to buy drugs from him. Ben, who has just finished his patrol training, is eager to become a detective like his future brother-in-law James. But James expressly forbids the, in his opinion, incompetent Ben to interfere.

During the drug deal, Troy suddenly draws a gun. Just as James can calm the situation down, Ben suddenly appears and wants to help James and Mayfield. When the clumsy Ben's police badge falls on the floor, the three of them are blown up and a shootout breaks out in which several drug dealers are killed and Mayfield is injured.

Troy escapes in a car, but is caught by James and Ben shortly afterwards. The two of them find a USB stick at Troy.

Based on the information on the USB stick, Lieutenant Brook instructs James to look for Troy's man behind the scenes in Miami. Because Mayfield is injured, Ben asks James to be allowed to accompany him to Miami as his partner. James initially refuses, but is persuaded by his sister Angela, who is also Ben's fiancée, to do so.

Ben and James first go to Miami to see Detective Maya Cruz and her manager. Then they arrest the hacker AJ, who leads them to a nightclub because he suspects evidence there. However, Pope's hit man who wants to kill AJ suddenly appears at the club, which leads to a shooting with Ben and James. In the turmoil, AJ and the hit man can escape. Outside the club, the suspicious James manages to pull Ben out of his car and save him from a detonating car bomb.

Using AJ's phone and one of his friends, Ben and James manage to find AJ again. On the way back they are followed and shot at by two vehicles, but Ben and James manage to outrun the pursuers.

They later meet Maya and her colleague Alonso. AJ says that Pope - actually a well-respected and successful businessman - is the drug lord they are looking for. Maya's colleague Alonso also confirms this. AJ also explains that Pope wanted to kill him because AJ stole money from him.

Maya, Ben and James therefore sneak under a false name at a party in Pope's mansion to get information from his computer. They succeed in doing this, but Pope catches them and exposes them as police officers, but lets them go.

With the information obtained, the three and AJ locate a truck convoy in the port of Miami, in which they suspect evidence against Pope. One of the trucks is not registered, so they stop it. During the inspection, however, they have to determine that the truck is empty. Strangely enough, Mr. Nunez, the new manager of the port, appears. He criticizes the team for harassing Pope. Then the disgruntled Pope himself appears, who has let his connections play as a rich businessman - James is ordered by Lieutenant Brook to come back to Atlanta and Ben is even fired because he is still a probationer.

Maya later notices that Nunez arrived at the port exceptionally quickly. AJ then mentions that Nunez was on Pope's payroll. The team now understands that Pope set a trap for them and deliberately led them to an empty truck in order to expose them in front of their superiors and thus distract the investigation from themselves.

The team therefore goes to the port. When they check a container and find firearms in it, this also turns out to be a trap - they are set and attacked by Pope and his men. There is a shootout in which Pope's men are killed. Pope tries to escape with a truck, but is stopped by Ben, who uses a forklift to throw a container into his route and causes an accident. As Maya and James control the driver's cab, they are surprised by Pope, who fires at them from an ambush. But Ben throws himself into the line of fire and falls to the ground, but remains unharmed thanks to a bulletproof vest. Maya and James then cut Pope down with several shots. When Pope stands up again and shoots James twice more, he uses Ben as a protective shield. Only now is Maya able to finally shoot Pope.

The team is commended for their excellent investigative work. In the final scene, Ben and Angela get married. Maya accompanies James to the wedding. In his speech, James praised Ben as an excellent police officer and welcomed him to his family.
