Rob Steenhuis

Robert Marie Joseph Alphonse (Rob) Steenhuis (born October 26, 1949 in Amsterdam ; † February 9, 2018 in Rosmalen ) was a Dutch architect . He was best known for his station building designs.

Life

From 1971 to 1978 Steenhuis studied architecture at the Technical University of Delft . After completing his studies, he worked briefly at the Duintjer architecture firm in Amsterdam, whereupon from 1978 he worked for the Cor Kalfsbeek architecture firm in Borger in the province of Drenthe . From 1982 worked in the engineering department of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen , which was outsourced as an independent subsidiary in 1995. He stayed there for another year until he started working at Van Dijk Steenhuis Architecten in Gieten and 's-Hertogenbosch . Most of his buildings were built during his time with the Nederlandse Spoorwegen. From 2000 he was head of Bureau Spoorbouwmeester , an independently operating body of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen and ProRail . The Spoorbeeld ( German  "Eisenbahnbild" ) was set up under him . He also developed the first version of the Spoorbeeldgid (German "Eisenbahnbild- Leitfaden ") and was mainly responsible for advice and preparation. In collaboration with the former Rijksbouwmeester , Jo Coenen , he conceived the approach for the so-called Nieuwe Sleutelprojecten (German "New Key Projects "), the large-scale development plans for the train stations in Amsterdam Zuid , Arnhem Centraal , Breda , Den Haag Centraal , Rotterdam Centraal and Utrecht Centraal and the connection to the European high-speed network. In 2005 he became director of the Arcadis studio and held this position until 2007. Until his death, Steenhuis managed SOTAstudio , based in Nijmegen. Steenhuis died on February 9, 2018 in Rosmalen near 's-Hertogenbosch. He was a member of the Association of Dutch Architects .
