Rock the Block is the fourteenth studio album by the Swiss hard rock band Krokus . It contains the singles "I Want It All" and "Open Fire".

background

After Heart Attack and To Rock or Not to Be, the album Rock the Block was Krokus' third attempt at a comeback with Marc Storace on the microphone, but in contrast to the last two works, the album - despite the fact that the line-up changes continued to be appropriate - should have been consistently successful again Usher in years for the band. But before Rock the Block was supposed to appear, the staff carousel turned again extremely intensely: After Round 13 , with Carl Sentance on vocals, Fernando von Arb on lead guitar, rhythm guitarist Chris Lauper, Many Maurer on bass and Peter Haas on drums had been brought in, did not bring the desired success, there were already several line-up rotations again during the subsequent tour. First bassist Many Maurer and drummer Peter Haas were replaced by Tony Castell, who played the rhythm guitar at Stampede , and Cliff Rodgers. In the further course they also separated from rhythm guitarist Chris Lauper, who was replaced by David Stettler, and from the recently integrated Cliff Rodgers, who handed over the drums to Marcel Kopp. But anyone who believed that this was the end of the personnel changes was once again mistaken, because before the new album was even tackled, there were three further restructurings: The longtime singer Marc Storace returned to the microphone for Carl Sentance, Dominique Favez replaced the recently included rhythm guitarist David Stettler and Patrick Aeby was the fourth drummer within four years after the separation from Marcel Kopp and thus also the fourth drummer between the releases of Round 13 and Rock the Block . But this time the line-up changes should have a positive effect on the music, because the studio work, which was recorded mainly in the Soundlake Studios in Lausanne , offers straightforward and above all freshly performed hard rock. Supported by the singles "I Want It All" and "Open Fire" as well as the songs "Rock the Block" and "Mad World", which were regularly performed live during the subsequent tour, this freshness should help the band achieve a novelty: next to place 69 In the German album charts - the first chart entry in Germany after 19 years - Rock the Block was the first album in the band's history for Krokus, which climbed to number 1 in the album charts in Switzerland. In addition, the band could look forward to a platinum award in their home country. The subsequent European tour, which was accompanied by the second live album Fire and Gasoline (Spontaneously Combustible) - Live! was captured, advanced to a triumphal procession including a much-acclaimed appearance at the Sweden Rock Festival. But again, changes in the line-up should follow: Even before the planned concert tour through North America, long-time lead guitarist, songwriter and band leader Fernando von Arb got out and was replaced by Mandy Meyer , who replaced Tommy Kiefer on tour in 1981 after the release of Hardware . After completing these 22 concerts in 31 days along the North American east coast, Stefan Schwarzmann - the first German in the line-up of Krokus - took over the drums for Patrick Aeby. In the constellation Storace, Meyer, Favez, Castell and Schwarzmann, the successor Hellraiser was finally tackled.
