Stampede is the eleventh studio album by the Swiss hard rock band Krokus .

background

After the departure of long-time members Marc Storace and Fernando von Arb, Krokus broke up and the final end of the band seemed near. Chris von Rohr initially remained active and then toured with singer Peter Tanner, lead guitarist Many Maurer , rhythm guitarist Tony Castell and drummer Peter Haas under the name Grand Slam through Germany, Austria and Hungary, partly as a support act for Bonfire . Grand Slam played mostly Rohrs solo material included on Hammer and Tongue . After that Chris von Rohr and his colleagues went their separate ways and ironically Fernando von Arb filled the gap left by Chris von Rohr. Subsequently, in early 1990, the formation continued to perform a few concerts under the name Grand Slam, before the decision was made to record a new studio album with this line-up. This was ultimately the starting shot for a completely new line-up of Krokus, consisting exclusively of Swiss, because after some deliberation it was clear that the new work, which again started in the Pink recording studios in Zuchwil and finally baptized Stampede, would be under the banner of the most successful Swiss rock band should appear at all times. This fact, which was already perceived as a surprise, should come up with another fact with regard to the line-up, at least notable with regard to Krokus: Since, in Fernando von Arb's opinion, the guitarists Maurer and Castell harmonized well with each other, and he also showed interest himself, Playing the four-string woofer in a band, the long-time guitarist took over the full-time bass for the first time, but also once in the band's history. The album was finally released in November 1990, musically but especially in terms of sound, it was more reminiscent of Krokus than its two predecessors Heart Attack and Change of Address and was also the hardest work by the Swiss since headhunters . It also contains z. B. with the title song "Stampede", with "Rock 'n' Roll Gypsy" or "Shotgun Boogie" some of the hard rock songs typical of the band and yet the album, which rose to at least 18th place in the Swiss album charts, did not receive the desired attention. On the one hand, this was due to the fact that it was initially only released in Switzerland, and possibly also because it was the first work after the debut album Krokus without an additional single promotion and, last but not least, the radical line-up changes this time - with Marc Storace were missing the voice of Krokus, with Mark Kohler an established guitarist and with Chris von Rohr a band leader and songwriter. But staff changes should continue to accompany the band: After Fernando von Arb was diagnosed with lymph cancer, the line-up broke up again and Krokus was initially on hold. Only after von Arb's full recovery was the formation revived in 1994, this time almost with the cast of One Vice at a Time : In addition to von Arb and Many Maurer, the returnees Marc Storace, Mark Kohler and Freddy Steady completed the band. The EP You Ain't Seen Nothin 'Yet and the album To Rock or Not to Be should follow. Stampede was re-released in 1999 in a double pack with To Rock or Not to Be , making it officially available internationally for the first time. The re-release contains the Bachman-Turner overdrive cover "You Ain't Seen Nothin 'Yet" from 1994 in the Storace line-up by Arb, Kohler, Maurer and Steady .
