Stayed Awake All Night: The Best Of is a best-of compilation by the Swiss hard rock band Krokus .
background
After the musical low point Change of Address , on which Krokus no longer sounded like straightforward hard rock, but rather like a pop glam metal formation, the band drew their conclusions after this release: They split up after the release of the live album Alive and Screamin ' from the record company Arista at the time and from their parent company Ariola - on the one hand, because they were pushing the band away from hard rock and into the glam metal wave that was emerging at the time, both in terms of music and external appearance wanted and on the other hand because of the high pressure regarding the quick presentation of a successor to The Blitz . Since Arista continued to own the rights to the albums from Metal Rendez-Vous to Change of Address , after separating from Krokus, the first best-of compilation for the American market was finally released in 1989 with Stayed Awake All Night: The Best Of . This contains songs from the studio albums from 1982 to 1986, i.e. from the band's actually commercially successful years, but the compilation must be viewed critically. On the one hand, this is due to the fact that it only contains ten songs, which means that the CD's length was by no means exhausted. In addition, with "American Woman" ( The Guess Who ), "Stayed Awake All Night" ( Bachman-Turner Overdrive ), "Ballroom Blitz" ( The Sweet ) and " School's Out " ( Alice Cooper ) four of the ten included titles are cover versions which in turn gives the false impression that Krokus are a cover band. The last point of criticism is the disregard of band classics from the successful albums Metal Rendez-Vous and Hardware , although the label also owned the rights to these works. Arista should have two more with The Dirty Dozen: The Very Best of 1979–1983 and The Definitive Collection and Ariola published best-of-compilations of Krokus - though better rated by the fans - to follow.
