Hardware is the fifth studio album by the Swiss hard rock band Krokus . It contains the single releases " Rock City ", " Smelly Nelly " and "Winning Man".

background

Hardware picks up stylistically and musically where its predecessor Metal Rendez-Vous left off. With the same line-up as the previous album, a no-frills hard rock album was recorded at Roundhouse Studios in London . With this work, Krokus consolidated the position in the rock and metal circus that had been established by their predecessor. With the singles " Rock City ", " Smelly Nelly " and "Winning Man", the Industrial Strength EP also released in Great Britain and the video clips for "Rock City", "She's Got Everything" and "Easy" produced at the legendary Hammersmith Odeon in London Rocker ”in the back, hardware achieved gold status in Switzerland. But the album was also received with goodwill in other countries: In Germany it reached number 56 in the charts, in Sweden number 50, in Great Britain number 44 and in Austria even number 16. In addition to “Rock City”, “Easy Rocker”, “ Winning Man ”and“ Celebration ”also represent other band classics that still appear regularly in the live set today. But with the hardware , the first cracks also formed in the band structure. The long-term drug problem and often unreliable lead guitarist Tommy Kiefer was fired immediately after the album was released. With Mandy Meyer , the band immediately presented a replacement who did all the hardware tour through Europe and North America, including with Mother's Finest , Nazareth , Ted Nugent , Rainbow , AC / DC , Pat Travers , Blackfoot , Blue Öyster Cult , Iron Maiden and April Wine graduated. However, Meyer did not stay with Krokus for long, and so there was another line-up change before the recording of the next studio album One Vice at a Time : Fernando von Arb took over the lead guitar and the Swiss Mark Kohler was presented for the rhythm guitar. Hardware is the last album with founding member Tommy Kiefer on guitar and the single "Smelly Nelly" is his last songwriter contribution for Krokus. According to information from Chris von Rohr, the album was not produced by the whole band, as can be read on the various sound carriers, but only by Fernando von Arb and himself. In contrast to the majority of the published versions of Hardware , a special US American version of the LP has a significantly different track list. In May 2014, Hardware was re-released by the Rock Candy label .
