To Rock or Not to Be is the twelfth studio album by the Swiss hard rock band Krokus .

background

When Fernando von Arb was diagnosed with lymph cancer in 1992, the future of Krokus was uncertain for the first time in the band's history. With the exception of Fernando von Arb, the completely newly formed line-up that recorded the Stampede album was history again after only a short interlude due to the serious illness of the only remaining original member. Then three years should pass before the most successful Swiss rock band of all time came back to life. After Fernando von Arb had fully recovered in 1994, the band again presented themselves in a new line-up - albeit one that was made up of well-known musicians: the long-time front man Marc Storace came back to the microphone for Peter Tanner, Mark Kohler took over Instead of Tony Castell's rhythm guitar again and Freddy Steady, who completed the band between To You All and One Vice at a Time , replaced Peter Haas on drums. In addition to von Arb, only Many Maurer remained from the previous line-up . But the two remaining members also swapped instruments: von Arb returned to the original position of lead guitarist and Maurer took over the bass. With this line-up, Krokus first completed the Living Legend Tour in 1994, before releasing the EP You Ain't Seen Nothin 'Yet, which is only available in Switzerland, in the same year and finally the album To Rock or Not to Be in 1995. And this especially pleased the fans because, like the two predecessors, this work, which was created in the Pink recording studios in Zuchwil and is available in two different cover artworks, offers straightforward, mature hard rock with a hint of blues. With the songs "Flying Through the Night", "Lion Heart" and "Natural Blonde", all of which were later to appear in the band's live set, the album was ranked 5th in the Swiss Heart Attack album charts and also earn a gold award. Again, there was a lot of evidence that Krokus were back, but this time, as so often in the band's history, things should turn out differently. Just like after the first comeback attempt in 1988, the line-up almost completely broke up this time. The newly fetched members Storace, Kohler and Steady were just as quick as they had come, and gone again. Krokus seemed to have reached the end next time. But once again the music world was taught better and so the only line-up constants of the last decade, Fernando von Arb and Many Maurer, again gathered new comrades in 1999: the Welsh front man Carl Sentance and both Swiss rhythm guitarist Chris Lauper and returnees Peter Haas on drums, completed the line-up for the successor Round 13 . To Rock or Not to Be was re-released in a twin pack with Stampede in 1999 . This version contains the chesslete version of the Bachman-Turner overdrive cover "You Ain't Seen Nothin 'Yet" with an approx. 2-minute percussion part .
