Roland Ostertag (architect)

Roland Ostertag (born February 19, 1931 in Ludwigsburg ; † May 11, 2018 in Stuttgart ) was a German architect and university professor . In the last years of his life, Ostertag campaigned primarily for the preservation of listed historical buildings. He was a staunch opponent of the Stuttgart 21 rail project .

Life

Roland Ostertag studied architecture from 1951 to 1956 at the Technical University of Stuttgart , where he also passed his main diploma examination in 1956. From 1954 to 1957 he worked at Curt Siegel's chair and with Jürgen Joedicke at the Technical University of Stuttgart. Since 1957 he has been working as a freelancer in Stuttgart .

From 1970 to 1998 he was full professor for building theory and design at the Technical University of Braunschweig . From 1993 to 1996 he was President of the Federal Chamber of Architects and visiting professor at the Technical University of Vienna .

On September 14, 2015, Roland Ostertag received the Federal Cross of Merit First Class from the Deputy Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Nils Schmid .

The town hall in Kaiserslautern can be regarded as the main work on Easter . Most recently, Ostertag focused on the preservation of urban monuments ; His best-known projects are the renovation of the old theater in Stuttgart and the Bosch area in the Stuttgart-Mitte district . Roland Ostertag's work archive is kept in the Southwest German Archive for Architecture and Civil Engineering (saai).
