The Romanist Theater is a student theater group at the University of Augsburg . After the performance on December 2, 2006, the performance was interrupted until 2013.
history
The Romanist Theater was founded in Augsburg in the summer of 1977 . Initially, it staged its plays in the original French. The theater group has played in German since 1983, but remained true to the Romance-speaking area through the selection of plays. Over the years it had become a permanent fixture in Augsburg's cultural life (around 2000 viewers per year). The last performance was on December 2, 2006, with Jean Racine's “Andromache”.
The group was made up of around 25–30 students , lecturers and former students from all faculties each year , who, in addition to acting, also took on the stage (image and technology), costumes and make-up. Hanspeter Plocher has directed the theater since it was founded.
In 2013, the student Valentin Rouault took on the demanding task of bringing the theater back to life. Supported by the Chair of Romance Studies, he and his actors made a comeback. With Molière's “Malade imaginaire” (The Conceited Sick), the only student troupe has resumed theater operations at the University of Augsburg.
In the following year 2014, the doctoral student Ivana Lohrey took over the vacant position as director.
stage
The performance will take place in lecture hall II of the University of Augsburg, which for this purpose has to be converted into a “ theater ” every evening and returned to its original state after the performance, as lectures take place there during the day . The podium is approx. 16 m wide, but only approx. 5 m deep. There is space for around 220 spectators in the lecture hall.
Guest performances
Guest performances have taken place in around 30 different cities at home and abroad (including Bautzen , Berlin , Friborg , Füssen , Heidelberg , Kempten (Allgäu) , Konstanz , Lindau , Munich , Nuremberg , Orléans , Paris ).
