Band history

Under the motto We are looking for the hottest live act in Germany , the casting show Popstars went into its sixth round in the summer of 2007. Singers and dancers applied at an open casting in various cities and faced the judgment of the jury. This consisted of the choreographer and dancer Detlef "D!" Soost , the music producer Dieter Falk , the DJane Marusha , singer Nina Hagen and the singing teacher Jane Comerford . In various preliminary rounds, the jury reduced the candidates to a smaller group who traveled to Füssen to be trained in singing, dancing and fitness. While the singers continued to compete, the dancers were separated from the singers. The final broadcast on the selection of the dancers took place on November 8, 2007. Aziz Kruezi, Armin "Shorty" Nezirevic, Darren Drake Baldric, Raik Preetz and Vika Ljascenko formed the Popstars Dance Company formation , which supported the Popstars band in some live performances.

In the season finale on December 6, 2007, four of the six remaining candidates made it into the band Room2012: Cristóbal Gálvez Moreno, Sascha Salvati, Julian Kasprzik and Tialda van Slogteren prevailed against Norman Ramazan and Marcella McCrae. On December 14, 2007 the single Haunted and the album Elevator were released, which placed in the top 10 of the German charts. Room2012 was the first formation to emerge from the German edition of Popstars , whose first single and debut album failed to reach number one on the charts. On March 7, 2008, Naughty but Nice was the second and final single. It entered the German charts at number 52. Room2012 appeared as the opening act for DJ Bobo's Vampires Alive Tour in Oberhausen and accompanied the artist on his tour through Germany, Switzerland and Austria. In August 2008 it was announced that the four's record deal would expire in October 2008. The band announced that they would be looking for a new record label where they could continue, possibly under a new name.

In December 2008 Room2012 took part in the RecAllstars project along with various other casting participants from pop stars , Deutschland sucht den Superstar , Star Search and Stefan Raabs SSDSDSSWEMUGABRTLAD . The download single Christmas Time was published, which, in addition to the version sung jointly by all artists involved, contained fourteen other variants, each interpreted by an individual artist in his own way. For the album Merry Christmas! Room2012 contributed the song Inspiration .

At the end of March 2009 the band announced via a letter to their fan club that the members would like to concentrate on their solo careers in the near future. There was no breakup, but the promise "as soon as the time was right" to return as a band. 2012 took three of the four band members on the show The Winner is ... part. Moreno competed on April 27, 2012 in the “Professionals” category against the duo Salvati and van Slogteren and finally reached the semi-finals. Salvati and van Slogteren used their participation in the show to make their relationship public. They have been in love with each other since the end of the Popstars season, but had to keep their relationship a secret.
