Rudolf von Bercken (General, 1824)
Theodor Kasimir Rudolf von Bercken (born March 12, 1824 in Wehlau , † April 3, 1898 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general .
Life
origin
Rudolf was a son of the Prussian major a. D. Karl Wilhelm Rudolf von Bercken (1794–1857) and his first wife Johanna Albertine, née Schulz (1800–1831).
Military career
Bercken visited the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin . On August 12, 1841, he was transferred to the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a Second Lieutenant . From April to the end of September 1850 he was briefly in command as adjutant of the 2nd battalion in the 1st Landwehr Regiment in Wehlau, was then appointed regimental adjutant and promoted to prime lieutenant in early December 1854 . From March 12, 1857 to March 15, 1860 Bercken was commanded as adjutant of the 4th Infantry Brigade to Danzig , rose to captain at the end of May 1859 and was then appointed as a company commander in the 1st Silesian Grenadier Regiment (No. 10) offset. In the spring, Bercken briefly acted as a company commander in the 2nd Battalion in the 10th Landwehr Regiment in Oels and on May 8, 1860, joined the 10th Combined Infantry Regiment in the same capacity, from which the 3rd Lower Silesian Infantry Regiment at the beginning of July (No. 50) formed. In 1864 he led his 6th company in the campaign against Denmark , advanced to major in November 1865 and was appointed commander of the 2nd battalion on April 6, 1866. As such, he took part in the Battle of Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria . He succeeded in taking the village of Nedelist despite violent resistance , and later in conjunction with the fusilier battalion of his regiment, the village of Briza . During these fighting, his subordinate troops were able to capture 15 guns and take around 5000 prisoners. For this success he was awarded the order Pour le Mérite on September 16, 1866 .
After the peace agreement , Bercken was transferred to Neisse on November 10, 1868 as commander of the 1st Battalion in the 2nd Upper Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 23 and promoted to lieutenant colonel in mid-June 1869 . During the war against France he led his battalion in 1870/71 before Paris , received the Iron Cross 2nd class and shortly before the Peace of Frankfurt was entrusted with the command of the King Grenadier Regiment (2nd West Prussian) No. 7 . On June 3, 1871, he was appointed regimental commander and on August 18, 1871, he was promoted to colonel . After Bercken had received the Knight's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern in mid-September 1875 , he was appointed commander of the 9th Infantry Brigade in Frankfurt (Oder) on March 11, 1876 under position à la suite of his regiment . In this position, promoted to major general on March 22, 1876 , Bercken took over the post of commander of Berlin on November 18, 1880 . On June 14, 1881, he received the rank and fees of a division commander and rose to lieutenant general on June 28, 1881 . From December 13, 1881 to November 2, 1885, Bercken was commander of the 29th division in Freiburg im Breisgau . He was then appointed governor of Metz and in mid-September 1886 was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves and the Order of the Crown's Enamel Ribbon . Under awarding of the character as General of Infantry was adjusted Bercken on 27 January 1888 the statutory pension for disposition . After his departure , on March 22, 1897, he received the crown of the Order of the Red Eagle, 1st Class with Oak Leaves.
After his death on April 6, 1898, he was buried in the Invalidenfriedhof in Berlin.

Bercken married Marie Pustar (1835–1912) in Danzig on August 19, 1855. She was the daughter of the Prussian Rittmeister a. D. and District Administrator of the Danzig District Ferdinand Gustav Pustar. The following children were born from the marriage:
