  • The Marchfeld expressway S8 is a planned expressway in Austria . In Lower Austria, it is supposed to connect the two capitals Vienna and Bratislava with each other as a northern high-performance road with no crossings . At the same time, there is already a road connection between the two metropolises south of the Danube with the A4 and A6 . The S8 is to branch off at the future junction S 1 / S 8 from the Vienna outer ring expressway S1, which is also in the planning stage for an expansion, and lead to the border crossing at Marchegg .

    Routing

The current plans envisage a route south of Deutsch-Wagram , Strasshof and Gänserndorf . The route then runs in a south-easterly direction and from Schönfeld parallel to the Marchegger Ostbahn towards the state border at Marchegg . A crossing of the March is to follow here, where the expressway to the D2 or the planned bypass of Bratislava, the so-called 0-Ring , is to flow.

    West section

The west section is a 14.2 km long section between the S 1 / S 8 node and Gänserndorf / Obersiebenbrunn. On July 19, 2011, the plans for the necessary EIA in Austria were submitted. Construction was originally supposed to start in 2014; construction is currently expected to start in 2021 and completion in 2023.

During the preparatory work, archaeologists came across a mass soldier's grave from the time of the Napoleonic Wars, where the Battle of Wagram took place in this area in 1809 .

    East section

The schedule for the second section to the state border at Marchegg is not yet known.
