San Lorenzo Maggiore is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2036 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Benevento in Campania . The municipality is located about 20 kilometers northwest of Benevento and belongs to the Comunità montana del Titerno . The Calore Irpino delimits the municipality in the south.

history

In 663, near the small town of Limata in the municipality, the battle between the Lombard Count of Capua and the Byzantine king Konstans II broke out. The earthquake of 1688 caused widespread destruction of the area.
