Melizzano is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1787 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Benevento in Campania . The municipality is located about 27 kilometers west of Benevento and about 20 kilometers northeast of Caserta and borders directly on the province of Caserta . The Calore Irpino delimits the municipality in the north and the Volturno in the west.

history

The community is identical to the ancient Melae , a settlement that already existed at the time of the Second Punic War (216 BC) and was dependent on the Roman settlement Telesia . Since 1861 the municipality has been part of the province of Benevento.

The former Strada Statale 265 dei Ponti della Valle (now a provincial road) leads through the municipality from Amorosi to Giugliano in Campania .
