The Trockau Castle is a castle complex on the western edge of the town Trockau , a neighborhood of Pegnitz , in the Upper Franconian district of Bayreuth . The three-storey building from the second half of the 18th century has an irregular square plan and dates back to a castle from the 13th century.

history

The Lords of Trockau are first mentioned in a document in 1273. Although the castle of the Lords of Trockau was first mentioned in documents in 1316, it should have already existed at the time the Lords of Trockau were first mentioned. At the end of the 13th century or the beginning of the 14th century, the castle came to the Groß von Trockau , probably by marriage . These enter the service of Konrad von Schlüsselberg in 1307 .

From 1390 at the latest, the castle was a fiefdom of the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg . During the Prince's War, in which the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg fought on the side of Duke Ludwig of Bavaria against the Margrave of Bayreuth, the castle was destroyed in 1460/1462. Another destruction took place in 1525 during the Peasants' War . Restored in a makeshift manner, the castle was destroyed again in the Thirty Years' War in 1632.

In place of the medieval castle, Karl Ludwig Kasimir Wilhelm Groß von und zu Trockau, Kohlstein and Tüchersfeld had today's castle built between 1769 and 1779 . The castle is still owned by this family today.

graveyard

The deceased family members of the Groß von Trockau family were formerly buried in the castle chapel, in Würzburg or other places. On June 16, 2007 , a separate family cemetery was inaugurated on the castle grounds in the course of the corridor that concluded the hail ceremony .
