Burgstall Kirchahorn

The Burgstall Kirchahorn is an abandoned moated castle south of Kirchahorn , a district of the municipality of Ahorntal in the district of Bayreuth in Bavaria .

The castle complex was mentioned in 1447 and was probably the former ancestral seat of the noble family of the Lords of Ahorn. In 1525 the castle was destroyed in the course of the peasant war. After the castle was in a very bad structural condition in the 18th century, it was demolished in 1778/79. Today the place of the small moated castle, which is located immediately east of the Kirchahorn sports field, is meadow area. After 1953 the castle site was severely disturbed by the regulation of the course of the Ailsbach.
